Insight With Beth Ruyak on Capitol Public Radio: Naval Aviator Peter Fey Shares Vietnam Story In "Bloody Sixteen"
In his 2018 book, "Bloody Sixteen: The USS Oriskany and Air Wing 16 during the Vietnam War," retired naval aviator Peter Fey tells the story of the aircraft carrier that was the site of devastating loss in its three deployments.
Fey served in naval aviation for 22 years, with 18 spent behind the cockpit of carrier-based aircraft. With an educational background in history and military history, he wanted to tell the story of the USS Oriskany that is not well known but he calls a quintessential Vietnam story. The warship’s deployments came in the midst of a bombing campaign against North Vietnam called Operation Rolling Thunder, resulting in the loss of many pilots.
A free screening of the new documentary, "Lady Jessie," features some of the surviving pilots. It is screening is Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Crest Theater, 1013 K St. in Sacramento. Fey will be signing copies of his book before the screening.
