'Free Solo' Wins Seven Emmy Awards
Free Solo received Emmy nominations in seven different categories and won them all, including outstanding achievement in interactive media, sound editing and mixing.
As host of Insight with Beth Ruyak on Sacramento’s Capitol Public Radio, one of the Beth’s most compelling guests was iconic rock climber and focus of the movie Alex Honnold. Part of his conversation with Beth in October, 2016 landed in the National Geographic documentary Free Solo.
The film, which chronicles climber Honnold's solo ascent of Yosemite National Park's El Capitan, won the Oscar for best documentary feature in February. On the way to the Oscars, the film also won the best documentary honor at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA ) Awards.
